Itinerary

Day 1: Tuesday 11th July 2017 - PORT MORESBY-RABAUL   PX274 15:15 POM-RAB 16:40

On arrival at Port Morsbvye, guests will be met by our representative and taken directly to the domestic airport to connect with the domestic flight to Rabaul. On arrival in Rabaul your courtesy coach will transfer you to your accommodation. Lodge Accommodation

Day 2: Wednesday 12th July 2017 - Kinvai, Mask Festival

Early rise today, have some coffee in your rooms. This morning guests will be taken to Omorong Beach for the arrival of the Kinavai by canoe, the spirit that marks the official opening of the Mask Festival. Upon sunrise, the Dukduks and Tambuans will come ashore performing their rituals of thanks to the spirits.

After this, we reutrn to the Lodge for breakfast, before heading to the festival grounds for the day. VIP tickets have been purchased for you. The famous Asaro Mudmen from Eastern Highlands will also be present today. Legend has it that this little tribe was chased away from their traditional land by a bigger tirbe. In order to reclaim the traditional land they made masks that looked like their dead acestors and used these masks to chase away the bigger clan from their land.  Lodge Accommodation (B)

Dayy 4: Thursday 13th July 2017 - Full day Festival

After breakfast guests will be transported to the festival grounds to witness costumes of various colors which you may have never seen before and hear the sound of chanting and dancing to the best Kundo drum beats. Again you will have full access to the VIP arena as well as the VIP seats. Guests will be transported in the evening to Kainagunan Village to experience the Baining Fire Dance, a very sacred and unique dance to the East New Britain people. The young men were initiated into adult hook by dancing barefoot on the fire without getting their feet burnt while wearing masks that represent spirits of their ancestors. Lodge Accommodation (B)

Day 5: Friday 14th July 2017 - Full day Festival

Optional: After breakfast guests can decide either to have another half day at the festival or take a Volcano Harbour Cruise. Visit Simpson's Harbour, Blue Lagoon, and the Beehives in the middle of the Harbour and enjoy a closer view of the active volcano's. Return via Pigeon Island, and island inhabited by pigeons. Enjoy a 20 minute walk around the island and for those interested in snorkelling, snorkel some of the most pristine coral reefs surrounding this little island. Lodge Accommodaiton (B)

Day 6: Saturdayu 15th July - RABAUL-PORT MORESBY    PX275 07:00 Rabaul-POM 08:20

After breakfast guests will be transferred to Tokua Domestict Airport to connect with flight back to Port Moresby. Transfer to International airport to commence journey home (B)
